VIP style event raises funds for Keaton Raphael Memorial
Raising funds to help families battling childhood cancer is always in style. More than 125 guests of the Keaton Raphael Memorial got the VIP treatment Saturday and Sunday during the Westfield Style Tour. The Roseville-based nonprofit supports families and raises funds to find a cure for childhood cancer. It was founded by Robyn Raphael, whose son Keaton died from neuroblastoma in 1997. The VIP event was held to thank cancer families, donors, volunteers and sponsors for their support of the organization, according to event coordinator Julie Fry. The nonprofit also hosted a raffle for shopping sprees to Macy’s and Westfield Galleria, raising $705 for the program, Fry said. Saturday’s Westfield Style Tour included an appearance by celebrity stylist Stacy London. The host of TLC’s “What Not to Wear” came out to visit with 9-year-old cancer survivor Sadie Leber of Roseville. Sadie was diagnosed with neuroblastoma on Christmas Day in 2007. After multiple rounds of chemo, surgery, stem cell transplants and radiation, Sadie is currently in remission, said her mom, Candace Leber. Leber said it was “really fun” that London came out to see her daughter and asked her about school. After battling cancer for so many years, Sadie was finally able to return to Heritage Oaks Elementary School this fall. Leber said the Keaton Raphael Memorial provided her family with many kinds of assistance during Sadie’s battle, including books to help to know what to expect from chemo and gas cards to help them make trips to San Francisco for treatment. “Robyn’s son Keaton had the same type of cancer (as Sadie), so it’s nice to have somebody who identifies with you,” Leber said. “The organization is so considerate. They think of us always — always — and include us to come out to things like this. It’s a treat, something that makes our family feel special.” The Westfield Style Tour continues Saturday and Sunday with free style consultations with stylists trained by London.
