Big early splash lifts Granite Bay over Whitney
By: Staff Report
Fourteen goals before intermission put the Granite Bay High boys water polo team in position to glide to an easy home win over Whitney Tuesday as the Grizzlies moved within one win of another perfect regular season. The Grizzlies outscored Whitney 9-1 in the first period, and then took care of business the rest of the way against the overmatched team from Rocklin. James Vigeant scored five goals to lead the Granite Bay scoring attack, while 11 different Grizzly players found the inside of the cage. Mitchell Kobayashi, Robby Cunha, Andrew Murch and Max Vigeant each scored a pair of goals for Granite Bay. The unbeaten Grizzlies (7-0) close out the regular season at 2-4 Bear River Thursday and will play in the Woodcreek tournament at the Roseville Aquatic Complex Friday and Saturday. In other SFL action, Woodcreek (4-2) turned an early 9-2 lead into an 11-5 win over Nevada Union (1-5) as Alex Parker scored four goals to lead the way. The Timberwolves visit Oakmont Thursday before hosting the tournament on the weekend. Rocklin (4-3) beat Roseville (1-5) 10-8. The Thunder have the bye Thursday and Roseville hosts Nevada Union before both teams also participate in the Woodcreek tournament.
