Bayside brings 'Global Awareness' to town

Local church broadcasts preeminent leadership conference live
-A +A
Bayside Church will once again host the Global Leadership Summit, expected to reach more than 120,000 people from 50 countries. How does this preeminent leadership conference reach so many people? That’s easy — through technology. Satellite technology allows churches around the world to host local branches of this two-day event, which actually takes place at Willow Creek Community Church outside Chicago. Bayside will broadcast the conference live at its main campus, providing a unique opportunity for leaders from the greater Sacramento region to participate. David Harris, Bayside staff pastor and director of Thrive ministries, said the church expects at least 500 people to attend the conference locally. Overall, the event will be broadcast to more than 400 sites in the United States and about 140 internationally. Attendees include pastors, teachers, business leaders, politicians, law enforcement officials, politicians, churchgoers and non-churchgoers. Guest speakers include Jack Welch, Bill Hybels, Jim Collins, Christine Caine, Tony Dungy and others. “It’s a venerable who’s-who of speakers,” Harris said. “I always learn something from these incredible speakers. It’s also a chance to meet with folks from different organizations and companies and interact with other churches about what has inspired them.” Welch will talk about the principles of leadership he demonstrates as head of General Electric. Hybels is senior pastor of Willow Creek, one of the highest-attended churches in the nation. Collins authored the books “Built to Last," “Good to Great” and “How the Mighty Fall." Former professional football coach Dungy will speak along with Caine, who founded the A21 Campaign to help victims of human trafficking. The goal is for people to make new connections, challenge each other, grow as leaders and learn from experts. “We encourage and share in fresh hope,” Harris said. “That’s the whole reason we host this — to invest in the leaders of the future.” ~Sena Christian ---------- What: Global Leadership Summit When: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 and Friday, Aug. 6.
