Swimmers take your mark. The Johnson Ranch swim team, The Barracudas, is gearing up for its 2009 season with registration for new swimmers scheduled March 10. Registration will take place at the Johnson Ranch South Club from 6-8 p.m. Parents are asked to bring their child’s birth certificate to the registration. Prior to registration, new swim team members are asked to be evaluated on Mar. 7 from 9 a.m - 1 p.m and should be prepared to demonstrate basic swimming techniques to determine their level of experience. Participants must be members of the Johnson Ranch Racquet Club at the time of registration. However, memberships are available on a month-to-month basis for those only interested in participating on the swim team. The Barracudas’ season begins in April with after-school practices and ends with the championship meet the last weekend in July. Swim practice is scheduled from 3:15-8:30 p.m. from April-May and from 7 a.m. to noon during the summer. Practice times will vary depending on swimmer’s level, but typically won’t last more than an hour. According to Rich Wells, general manager of JRRC, six meets are scheduled for the ’09 season. Parents are required to participate in at least two of the meets by signing in swimmers or timing races, among other volunteer activities.
