The Eureka Attack, an under-16 girls soccer team based in Granite Bay, took second place in the Wine Country tournament. The girls are a first year team and played against competition from throughout Northern California. The Attack won its first game in the tournament against the SC Tsunamis 1-0. The second game saw the Attack put together a strong scoring effort winning against the DFC 93 Revolution 5-1. Play resumed on Sunday with the Attack playing in the semi-finals against the Sonoma United, a local A team. In what proved to be a hard-fought game by both teams, playing through two overtime sessions, the Attack eventually won in a penalty kick shootout by a score of 5-4. After being provided a short rest and a slight delay to the scheduled championship game, the Attack eventually fell to the Viking Valkyries by a score of 3-1. The Attack is coached by Ken Bensen and Chip McAvoy. Their trainer is Simon Sheppard.
