All American Speedway honors top drivers of 2011 season

Woodcreek offers Little Lady Timberwolves basketball

Steve Cote, Joe Rhodes and Joe Dahl were named Rookies of the Year for the 2011 season at All American Speedway.

Cote, a resident of Canada, finished second in points to Modified track champion Dan Jinkerson. Rhodes was third in Bomber points behind runaway champ Chris Paulson and runner-up Richard Perez. Dahl finished 13th in Street Stock points.

Perez was honored as the Most Improved Driver in the Bomber class, and Paulson was recognized for his track-record qualifying lap of 15.81 seconds around the one-third-mile track on May 7.

Other Most Improved Driver awards went to Juan Pitta, third in Late Model points; Cody Thompson, fifth in Modified points; and Erick Martinez, who raced just twice in the first seven Street Stock events but came on in the final nine races to finish 10th in points.

Street Stock champ Mickey Owens was named Mechanic of the Year, and RPM NorCal Racing was Sportsman of the Year.

A play day is scheduled for March 9 at the speedway.

Woodcreek offers Little Lady Timberwolves basketball

Signups are being taken for Little Lady Timberwolves Basketball at Woodcreek High School.

The league is scheduled for four Saturdays: a clinic and evaluation from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 21, followed by practices and games on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 and 11.
Girls in kindergarten and first grade will shoot at 6½-foot baskets. Second- and third-graders will play on eight-foot baskets and fourth- and fifth-graders on 10-foot baskets.

Girls will be introduced to the offensive and defensive fundamentals of basketball, as well as rules and sportsmanship. Woodcreek coaches and players will organize and conduct practices and games.

Registration will be held at 8 a.m. Jan. 21 at the Woodcreek gymnasium, and the fee will be $60.

Alumni night for Roseville wrestling

Roseville High School alumni wrestlers and stat girls are encouraged to attend Wednesday night's Sierra Foothill League dual meet at home against Del Oro. The evening begins with appetizers at 5 p.m. The JV match begins at 6 and the varsity match at 7.

Bella Vista hosts lacrosse coaching clinic

A level 1 clinic will be held for U.S. Lacrosse members from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks.

The clinic is part of the U.S. Lacrosse Coaching Education Program certification procedure. The registration fee is $85.
