The Brooks family of Granite Bay does not have a shortage of high achievers. Meegan, Skylar and Tess Brooks are all continuing the academic excellence they began in high school with their various courses in college. Meegan completed her sophomore year at UC Berkeley as a political science major with plans to continue to law school. After recently finishing an internship with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, she is currently in Washington, D.C., as an intern for the Association of American Universities, where she has had the opportunity to interview several government officials, including Army and Air Force generals. Meegan will return to California this fall for an internship with the San Francisco Commonwealth Club. Next spring, her studies will take her across the globe to Cape Town, South Africa. Tess has completed her freshman year at Berkeley and after graduating first in her class at Granite Bay High School last year, she is continuing to excel in her studies, receiving top grades at the college level. She is a member of the Berkeley Concert Band and is currently traveling thousands of miles to competitions around the country this summer as a trumpet player in the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum Corps. She is planning to spend a semester in Brazil during her junior year and plans to pursue a PhD in anthropology and teach at the university level or attend law school. Skylar, Tess’s identical twin, finished her freshman year at Yale University in Connecticut and spent two weeks in May on an environmental research trip to India. Following that adventure, she attended summer school in Singapore, with trips to Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. Skylar, a mallet percussionist, will be off to Swaziland, Africa, next year with the Yale concert band. Like Meegan, she is planning on going to law school.
