Placer County along with California will need to have certified trained servers by 2021 per the Responsible Beverage Server Training Program Act passed by State legislature earlier this year according to spokesman for the Alcoholic Beverage Control John Carr.

The Department’s Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) program facilitates in preventing DUI’s by supplying the alcoholic beverage market with practical, useful information on serving alcoholic beverages safely, responsibly and legally with an special emphasis on preventing sales to minors, sales to obviously intoxicated individuals and illicit drug activity at licensed establishments in California according to Carr.

“The LEAD program is designed to provide licensees and servers with the tools and knowledge needed to promote responsible consumption, keep alcohol out of the hands of minors, and make our communities safer.  For over 25 years, ABC has been proud to provide this training to the industry in a classroom setting and free of charge. We are very excited to expand the accessibility of the program through the launch of a free online version.” said ABC Director Jacob Appelsmith.”

The CHP was responsible for more than 32,000 DUI arrests for the period from January – July, 2018, the vast majority of those DUI arrests are for alcohol impairment among the state according to ABC spokesman Carr.
DUI arrests Includes all alcohol involved (alcohol and alcohol/drug combo) felony and misdemeanor arrests by the CHP.
Carr went on to highlight what his organization is doing to help combat this issue and make more people aware of the training, including those that already serve alcohol professionally, “ABC is making a push to help reduce DUI’s by encouraging alcoholic beverage servers to get trained. ABC has a goal of trying to get 10,000 individuals trained Online by the end of September and currently are far short of that number. Currently we are just over 700, so we need to make a push here.”
Total Number of ABC licensed businesses in California (all licenses) total at 91,188 (as of June 30, 2017). The total number of on-sale locations in the State of California (places like bars or restaurants, wine bars-etc.) where alcohol is purchased and consumed on site is 47,254 according to Carr.
The total number of ABC licensed retail outlets in Placer County are 984. Roseville leads the way with 346, then Rocklin with 117, Auburn with 88, Lincoln with 62, Colfax with 24 and 15 in Loomis.
