Downtown Tuesdays to wrap up record-breaking season on TuesdayBy: Bill Sullivan, Associate Publisher
As the age-old saying states, all good things must come to an end.
Such will be the case next Tuesday, July 31 as residents have one final opportunity to gather in the street and enjoy the sights, sounds and tasty delights of Roseville’s Downtown Tuesday nights with their neighbors for the year.
After a very successful season, it’s time for the weekly street festival to go dormant until 2019.
Since its beginning many years ago, Downtown Tuesday Nights has been a free event for all ages and that theme continued this year, attracting record crowds over the last two months. Attendees responded positively to this year’s many new amenities and will surely pack the street this Tuesday to enjoy them one final time to close out the month of July.
In 2017, some 60,000 visitors patronized Downtown Tuesday nights. After next Tuesday, this year is expected to top that record high.
“This season broke records for attendance, which made our sponsors very happy,” said Darlene Lyons, president of EZ Events, which presents Downtown Tuesday Nights among other community events. “On June 24th, we estimate that 8,000 people attended alone.”
The last two weeks, attendance was slightly lower than the previous week’s, according to Lyons, factoring in the recent heat wave Placer County has been experiencing.
Temperatures look to be cooling down in the week ahead, however, making it a great time to come out one final time.
“The last two weeks have been lighter because of the extreme heat,” said Lyons. “We are gearing up for closing night with some amazing entertainment for all ages, including the Strum Shop stage and five-time Grammy nominated band Ambrosia on the main stage.
Among the added amenities this year was a VIP area offering premier seating close to the main stage. The Kids’ Zone has been a popular area weekly. This week, features will include large dinosaurs, Scooter the dog, super heroes, a princess, a caricature artist and the spray ground for the kids, according to Lyons.
Then, there’s the food. Throughout the season, an impressive fleet of food trucks have given Tuesday night visitors a variety of choices to please their appetites. In addition to the rolling diners, eateries located along Vernon Street have been bursting with hungry customers week after week.
This Tuesday will be one that area residents won’t want to miss as well-known musical act, Ambrosia, takes the stage for this grand finale affair.
Ambrosia, a band loved by a multitude of fans since the 1970s, is now more alive and compelling than ever. The Grammy-nominated ensemble is exploring new musical territory and bringing an exceptional musical performance to stages everywhere. Always exploring the possibilities of progressive, classical, and world influences, with tangled roots of soul, rhythm, and blues, Ambrosia is continuing to entertain their original fans while still engaging new audiences.
Additional entertainment for this week’s finale will include School of Rock’s house band performing classic rock hits, including Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Prince, Michael Jackson and many more. The School of Rock is scheduled to open in Downtown Roseville this September and this performance will be a showcase of what they plan to bring to the community.
The weekly car show is expected to boast a large number of entries for Tuesday’s finale. Adult beverage options will also be plentiful.
“We also expect 125 classic cars this week to round out the car show. This week’s featured beverages are Loomis Basin draft beer and Tahoe Blue Vodka,” said Lyons. “Food trucks will include street tacos, nachos, lobster, pizza, ice cream, shaved ice, funnels cakes and more.”
Downtown Tuesday’s begins at 5 p.m. with the main stage lighting up at 7:30 p.m. Learn all about the event at downtownrosevilleevents.com.
