This Saturday night, action heats up as Rocklin’s Quarry Park kicks off its 2018 Summer Concert in a big fashion with a tribute to Jimmy Buffett featuring Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads headlining an all-star lineup of talent.

Performing along with Wilkin will be rising star Rachel Steele and Scott Kirby to complete the trio of talent. The event is one not to be missed as attendees will enjoy plenty of food selections, themed adult-beverages and non-stop entertainment throughout the evening.

“This is going to be a family event with something for everyone. Amazing food and drink options that compliment the Caribbean theme for the evening and a few very special surprises that have been planned for those that attend,” said Phil MacDougall, vice-president of sales and marketing for Quarry Park Adventures. “You can’t beat the location, the atmosphere, the entertainment and good old-fashion family fun for the price.”

Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads  are in the midst of a busy year, performing throughout all of the Western United States, including Alaska and the popular band has been billed the  No. 1 Jimmy Buffett tribute band.
“We are very excited about being the opening show for Quarry Park. This place is going to be amazing when it gets all finished,” said Wilkin. “Phil contacted me about this park and doing the show. We go back to when I had a local band in Placerville called The Whiskey Ducks. He used our band for a cable TV show that was taped in the early ’90s.  A big thank you to Phil and all he has done to make this a great event. Without him, it wouldn’t be happening.”

Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads formed in Northern California in 1999 when a group of local musicians found they were performing more Jimmy Buffett songs by request. Garratt’s band,  The Whiskey Ducks, continued to receive more and more requests for Jimmy Buffett songs and was becoming known as the Buffett Band.

At 16, Wilkin picked up the guitar while traveling through Oregon. He played at campgrounds and campfires, learning what he could from other traveling musicians. While living in Hollywood as a youngster, Wilkin began acting in television and films. He has appeared in numerous television programs and feature films. Among the appearances were “Dragnet,” “Bonanza,” “The Waltons,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “Happy Days” and the iconic “Mash.”  Wilkin also starred in Walt Disney’s first PG-rated film, “Midnight Madness,” and the ABC movie “Pigs vs. Freaks.”

It was during this time that his love of performing music began to grow.

“We were filming on location in Oregon and the band playing in the lounge of the hotel we were staying at was Larry Mahan’s back-up band, ‘The All American Cowboy Band,’” said Wilkin. “After all day on the set, Pat and I would show up and sing with the band all night.”

Thereafter, Wilkin’s interest in a music career became more important to him. He began writing his own songs and telling his own adventures, with a special style that he attributes to the influences of Jimmy Buffett, Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard and Rodney Crowell.

With the release of her debut single, “Here To Get My Stuff,” Steele’s single has already started hitting the airwaves nationally and is quickly getting attention from radio stations across the country. The addition of Steele to Saturday’s program gives spectators a solid night of entertainment.

Kirby is another strong addition to the program.  Singer, songwriter, guitarist, storyteller, sailor and road warrior are all words that aptly describe Kirby. Over the years, Kirby has shared the stage with some of his favorite artists: Carol King, Jimmy Buffett, Livingston Taylor, Tom Rush, Mac Anally, Peter Mayer and others.

Jimmy Buffett fans, known as Parrotheads, are encouraged to attend Saturday’s concert in character. Several special prizes will be given based on creativity. Prizes will include a family pack to Quarry Park Adventures, VIP tickets to the Quarry Park Summer Concert Series and tickets to the “Wheel of Fortune”
