Placer Valley Tourism and the Sacramento Area Wrestling Association (SAWA) are thrilled to announce the first-ever Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions (WWCTOC), which will be coming to Hardwood Palace in Rocklin this weekend, Dec. 19-20.

This exciting inaugural wrestling tournament will feature both high school and college wrestling matches. The high school competition will take place throughout the day Saturday and will feature 14 different weight divisions ranging form 101 to 235 pounds. The college teams will compete Sunday with 10 weight divisions between 101 to 191 pounds.

Jeremy Arsich of SAWA is looking forward to not only making wrestling history with this monumental event but he is excited about the teams on board and the caliber of wrestlers competing.

"We have more than 30 high school teams and we're adding more each day," Arsich explained. "There are 21 state qualifiers competing as well."

Locally, there are several high schools that will be represented including Woodcreek, Del Oro, Lincoln, Bella Vista and Casa Roble High School. Lauren Mason from Woodcreek High School and Savannah Scott from Del Oro High School, both whom are state qualifiers will be competing in the 111-pound weight division. Natalie Lipman, a state qualifier in the 126-pound class, will be representing Lincoln High School while Elana Topete, another Del Oro wrestler and a state qualifier, will compete in the 150-pound division.

Don Martinez, the president of SAWA, explained that it is going to be a freestyle tournament with amazing awards for the champions.

"There will be medals for the top six placers in each divisions, three awards for the most outstanding wrestler per division, team awards and customs backpacks for the champions," Martinez added.

Both SAWA and PVT are looking forward to this new venture, which could become an annual event here in Placer Valley. The event will take place at Hardwood Palace, located at 1091 Tinker Rd in Rocklin, this weekend.
