Active shooter in Roseville caught; victim sustained non-life threatening injuryBy: Brody Fernandez Of Gold Country Media
Early Wednesday morning, shots rang out in a Roseville neighborhood near Musgrave Drive and Country Club Drive , according to law enforcement officials.
The suspect, Joseph Alan Kurtz, 58 of Roseville is now in custody. Kurtz is being charged with assault with a firearm as the investigation is still underway, according to Roseville Police Department spokesman Rob Baquera.
“The call came in at 9:35 a.m. as one individual sustained a non-life-threatening injury,” Baquera said.
The suspect and victim were neighbors, according to Baquera.
It is unknown at this point why the suspect was shot, according to Baquera.
“We don’t believe they were involved in any kind of conflict,” Baquera said. “We just know that one neighbor was walking down the street, and this victim was then shot and sustained a non-life threatening injury.”
Officers thought the shot came from the house area, possibly from the backyard or garage area, according to Baquera.
“The shot came from the suspect’s property,” Baquera said. “He was then taken into custody as he exited his home.”
The weapon that was used is unknown at this time, according to Baquera.
“Exactly what the victim was shot with is still under investigation,” Baquera said Thursday. “We just don’t know. What we do know is that it caused a significant injury to the victim.”
When asked if nearby residents should be concerned about their safety, Baquera said there is no further threat.
“At this time, we don’t believe there is a continued threat to the neighborhood,” Baquera said.
