The Roseville Theatre Arts Academy has received an early Christmas gift: a “Secret Santa” willing to match any donations made to the theater between now and Dec. 31.

The nonprofit theater group is asking people to consider doubling the effect of their donations by giving to RTAA while the Secret Santa is matching donations.

The organization is dedicated to fostering theater arts within Roseville. Its programs include children’s workshops, a Masters’ Series for more experienced actors, Community Choir and classes in voice, dance and drama.

The academy incorporated in January 2011, following the sudden closure of Civic Theatre West, previously called Magic Circle Theatre. With the child actors of the Christmas show in the midst of final rehearsals, the idea for Roseville Theatre Arts Academy was hatched.

While operationally in the black, the group has needs that remain unmet due to a shortage of funds, according to a press release. These include a new air conditioning unit and improvements to the sound system. They’re also responsible for paying the high cost of royalties for the popular shows that draw attendance and interest of young actors and actresses.
