Cirby Elementary School fifth graders performed “The American Revolution: 1765-1789,” on Friday. The musical began with two students eager to learn more about this period in history calling on Betsy Ross — the maker of the American flag — to recall stories of the revolution. They sang a song called, “Tell us, Betsy.” Major events were acted out for the audience, including the Revolutionary War between the American colonies and England from 1775 to 1783, and the July 4, 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence. The fifth graders performed 11 songs during the musical, which was directed by teachers Natalie Cabezud, Jon Phillips and Janis Pope. ~ Sena Christian
